Course Outline
- Classroom training – 6 hours of lecture and videos. (Covers Workplace Health and Safety regulations, CSA standards, ASME B30 standards, site / employer specific policies & procedures, hand signals, safe rigging procedures)
- Practical training – two hours of demonstration and hands-on training followed by a proficiency demonstration.

Those who are required to operate and use Aerial Lift Devices such as scissor lifts, telescoping lifts, articulating boom lifts, folding and straight boom lifts. Participants will learn safe operating practices and procedures for the safe operation of an Aerial Lift Device. This course includes:
- Fundamentals of safe Aerial Lift Device operation

* Participants will be required to bring their own fall protection harness and shock absorbing lanyards, those not equipped with such will not be allowed to operate the aerial lifts.
Light Duty Crane and Hoisting Equipment Operator Training
Learning Objectives
- After completing this training, participants will:
- Understand the safe use, set up and operation of Light Duty Crane and Hoisting Equipment
- Know how to conduct a pre-use inspection, understand the requirements of a monthly and annual inspection of Light Duty Crane and Hoisting Equipment.
- Demonstrate safe operating and rigging procedures of Light Duty Crane and Hoisting Equipment.
- Know the roles and responsibilities for the safe operation of Light Duty Crane and Hoisting Equipment and the use, care, inspection and storage of rigging equipment.
Course Outline
- Classroom training – 8 hours of lecture and video’s, (covers Workplace Health and Safety regulations, CSA standards, ASME B30 standards, (site employer specific policies & procedures are to be provided by the employer), correct hand signals, safe rigging procedures) review of the operators manual for the participants equipment.
- Practical training – eight hours of demonstration and hands-on training followed by a proficiency demonstration.
- Evaluation – evaluation of operator performance
For successful completion of this training, participants will:
- Complete a knowledge-based written review. (Day One)
- Demonstrate completion of a pre-use inspection and safe operation of Light Duty Crane and Hoisting Equipment, which includes set up of the utility cranes, hand signal recognition, control of the utility cranes, rigging selection and use, interpretation of load charts, log book maintenance, securing of loads. (Day Two)

Items Participants are required to bring:
- For Day One:
- Operators manual for their equipment
- Photo Copy of their equipments load charts.
- For Day Two:
- 2 or 4 foot level
- Class “A” steel toed foot wear
- Hard hat and safety glasses
- Hearing Protection
- Leather gloves
- 100 f00t measuring tape
- Proof of inspection of light duty crane or hoist (must be within the last 12 months)
- The equipment they operate.
- Proof of insurance for the equipment.
- Rigging equipment (slings, shackles etc.).

Who Should Attend the Light Duty Crane and Hoisting Equipment Operator Training Course?
- Those who are required to operate and use Utility Cranes or those who supervise them.
- This training program is designed to provide safety training for light duty cranes and boom trucks that do not fall under the provincial apprenticeship program for Cranes and Hoisting Equipment Operator. (Cranes less than 15 tons / 13.6 tonnes, Boom trucks less than 5 tons / 4.5 tonnes)
- Participants will learn and demonstrate the safe operating practices / procedures for the safe operation / inspection for light duty cranes and boom trucks and the rigging hardware associated with it.
- Statistics show that trained operators are less likely to become involved in costly incidents that cause personal injury, property damage or product loss.
This course includes:
- Fundamentals of safe light duty cranes and boom trucks operation
- Pre use inspections – for light duty cranes and boom trucks and related rigging equipment
